A Jacket of Pollution

He walked on the old lane
to get a breath of fresh air
in a bright winter morning
wearing his old tattered jacket.

He smelled the burnt smoke instead
that choked his lungs in jiffy.
Old he was, but the city was new,
not the one he had seen a decade ago.

He passed a smile to his jacket
which kept him warm over the years
but the deadly air, he imagined
would not keep him alive for next two.

Sad and depressed, he sat on a bench
and mused over the generations to come.
Spotting a destitute he bestowed his jacket
which he believed wouldnt need him any more.

Till we get a fresh air..
